<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Users of the <a href="https://hamradio.my/2024/08/vgc-vr-n76-dual-band-handheld-radio-ham-radio-handy-of-the-year/"><strong>VR-N76</strong></a> VHF/UHF radio may be interested to know that a <strong>new beta firmware update</strong> has been released, adding support for <strong>Smart Beaconing</strong> and <strong>Mic-E encoding</strong>—two major features for APRS (Automatic Packet Reporting System) users.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">This update brings smarter location reporting capabilities, aimed at reducing unnecessary transmissions and improving overall efficiency during mobile or portable use.</p>

<hr class="wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity"/>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading"><img src="https://s.w.org/images/core/emoji/17.0.2/72x72/1f504.png" alt="🔄" class="wp-smiley" style="height: 1em; max-height: 1em;" /> What’s New in the Beta?</h3>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">The firmware adds <strong>Smart Beaconing</strong>, which adjusts position reporting based on movement and activity, rather than just fixed intervals. The system will now trigger location reports under the following conditions:</p>

<ul class="wp-block-list">
<li>Heading change exceeds <strong>30 degrees</strong></li>

<li>Speed changes by more than <strong>30 km/h</strong> and remains changed for over <strong>2 minutes</strong></li>

<li>It has been more than <strong>30 minutes</strong> since the last position report<br><strong>And</strong> the standard &#8220;Share Location&#8221; interval has passed</li>
</ul>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">In addition, <strong>Mic-E</strong> encoding is now supported—allowing for more compact APRS transmissions using fewer bytes.</p>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-large"><img  title="" fetchpriority="high" decoding="async" width="473" height="1024" src="https://hamradio.my/wp-content/uploads/2025/06/image-1-473x1024.png"  alt="image-1-473x1024 VR-N76 Beta Firmware Adds Smart Beacon &amp; Mic-E Support"  class="wp-image-7994" srcset="https://hamradio.my/wp-content/uploads/2025/06/image-1-473x1024.png 473w, https://hamradio.my/wp-content/uploads/2025/06/image-1-138x300.png 138w, https://hamradio.my/wp-content/uploads/2025/06/image-1-768x1664.png 768w, https://hamradio.my/wp-content/uploads/2025/06/image-1-709x1536.png 709w, https://hamradio.my/wp-content/uploads/2025/06/image-1-945x2048.png 945w, https://hamradio.my/wp-content/uploads/2025/06/image-1.png 1080w" sizes="(max-width: 473px) 100vw, 473px" /></figure>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">This is a <strong>beta release</strong>, which means:</p>

<ul class="wp-block-list">
<li>Some bugs or performance issues may still exist</li>

<li>Updates are only available to a limited number of testers</li>

<li>If the firmware cannot be updated using the steps below, it likely means the beta test is full</li>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Users who are unfamiliar with Smart Beaconing or prefer a more stable experience are advised to wait for the <strong>official public release</strong>.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">To access the beta firmware on a VR-N76:</p>

<li>Open the radio’s <strong>device settings</strong></li>

<li>Tap on the <strong>firmware version number</strong></li>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Keeping your ham radio up to date ensures optimal performance and access to the latest features. The Retevis Ailunce HA1UV is a rugged and reliable dual-band radio designed for both beginners and seasoned operators. In this guide, we’ll walk you through the process of updating its firmware to keep it running smoothly.</p>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>Why Update Your Firmware?</strong></h3>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Firmware updates can enhance the radio’s functionality, fix bugs, and improve performance. By following the steps below, you’ll ensure that your HA1UV operates efficiently, whether you&#8217;re using it for outdoor activities or urban communication.</p>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>Step-by-Step Guide to Updating Firmware</strong></h3>

<h4 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>Step 1: Download the Required Software and Firmware</strong></h4>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Before starting, download the latest CPS (Customer Programming Software) and firmware update files for the HA1UV from the official Retevis website. Ensure that you choose the correct version based on your region.</p>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-large"><img  title="" decoding="async" width="1024" height="500" src="https://hamradio.my/wp-content/uploads/2025/03/image-19-1024x500.png"  alt="image-19-1024x500 How to Update the Firmware on the Retevis Ailunce HA1UV Ham Radio"  class="wp-image-6644" srcset="https://hamradio.my/wp-content/uploads/2025/03/image-19-1024x500.png 1024w, https://hamradio.my/wp-content/uploads/2025/03/image-19-300x147.png 300w, https://hamradio.my/wp-content/uploads/2025/03/image-19-768x375.png 768w, https://hamradio.my/wp-content/uploads/2025/03/image-19.png 1097w" sizes="(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px" /></figure>

<h4 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>Step 2: Connect the Radio to Your Computer</strong></h4>

<ol class="wp-block-list">
<li>Power off your HA1UV radio.</li>

<li>Attach the programming cable to the port on the right side of the radio.</li>

<li>Plug the other end of the cable into your computer’s USB port.</li>
</ol>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-large"><img  title="" loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="1024" height="560" src="https://hamradio.my/wp-content/uploads/2025/03/image-22-1024x560.png"  alt="image-22-1024x560 How to Update the Firmware on the Retevis Ailunce HA1UV Ham Radio"  class="wp-image-6648" srcset="https://hamradio.my/wp-content/uploads/2025/03/image-22-1024x560.png 1024w, https://hamradio.my/wp-content/uploads/2025/03/image-22-300x164.png 300w, https://hamradio.my/wp-content/uploads/2025/03/image-22-768x420.png 768w, https://hamradio.my/wp-content/uploads/2025/03/image-22-1536x840.png 1536w, https://hamradio.my/wp-content/uploads/2025/03/image-22.png 1920w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px" /></figure>
