Let’s take a journey back in time as we delve into the fascinating ham radio adventures of Tony, 9M2BQ, during his time in Malaysia! πŸš€πŸ‡²πŸ‡Ύ

Tony, a dedicated ham radio enthusiast, had the incredible opportunity to live at 68K1 Jalan Inderaputra in Johor Baharu while working for the BBC. This unique house, originally built for the renowned author Doctor Han Suyin, was nestled in a charming park setting. Although it may not be visible on the map today, the memories of that special place live on. πŸ‘πŸ’«

Back in the early 1970s, Tony embarked on his ham radio journey in Malaysia. On October 26th, 1970, he made his first Malaysian QSO (radio contact) with JA0JAZ on 21MHz. This marked the beginning of numerous fascinating radio conversations that connected Tony with fellow hams around the world. πŸŒπŸ“‘

Throughout his time in Johor Bahru, Tony recalls having QSOs with several other 9M2 stations on 7 MHz, including 9M2RI, 9M2TI, 9M2AV, 9M2PT, 9M2GF, and 9M2CP/M. Interestingly, he mentions that the only other ham radio operator in the city at that time was the brother of the Sultan, adding a touch of royalty to the amateur radio community. πŸ‘‘πŸ“»

Tony’s radio station consisted of a National NCX5 200W radio, complemented by a three-band Cubical Quad antenna fixed on the UK and a wire doublet antenna. With this setup, he enjoyed countless hours of ham radio exploration and communication, forging connections across the airwaves. πŸ“»βœ¨
